W3C HTML Validation

by top54u.com 08 Apr, 2008

HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language that is used to display the information on Web page in structured layout and W3C provides the guidelines and standards to use the HTML tags in proper manner.

XML and HTML are compliance with W3C and use a common grammar called Data type Definitions (DTD) to validate the markup language. The process of verifying the markup tags, elements and attributes whether they are used according to the W3C rules is called the W3C markup validation.

W3C Validation for Quality Test

W3C validation verifies the quality of XML or HTML code done to create a well designed web page. It is not necessary that W3C validated page is good web page, some invalid web pages are also being considered as good HTML web pages. W3C validation tools only test the markup language with specific set of rules that cannot prove the web page as useless for the users by its artificial intelligence of algorithm.

What are HTML Markup Validators?

HTML or markup Validators are the tools used for validating the web page whether their code syntax and formatting are according to the W3C rules and guidelines. It just compares the provided HTML syntax with standards to verify the quality of HTML code syntax.

Is this important to validate the HTML page?

When you design a HTML page with some basic knowledge of HTML tags only, you could generate a well structured web page using it that may be compatible with different browsers in its manner of look and feel. But when you will design more complex web pages using the combined power of programming languages and scripts such as javascript or server scripts like PHP or ASP, it will make a difference in overall look of web page when browsing in different Explorers. Even different browser versions also display the web page in their own manner.

The problem is that the different browsers try to generate the web page according to their standards and different guesses that as a result displays the page like a mess and distorts the structure.

That’s why you have to validate the web pages at least to validate the HTML tags and attributes to make it a legal HTML web page.
